The chemistry department aims to deliver an exceptional academic program for chemistry majors, equipping them for careers in industry or government, advanced graduate studies, or admission to medical and dental schools. The curriculum also caters to aspiring middle and high school chemistry/physics teachers, as well as those requiring foundational chemical knowledge for scientific pursuits. Graduates will exhibit comprehensive grasp of chemical principles, ability to evaluate diverse chemical data, and proficiency in conveying chemical concepts through oral presentations and written reports using appropriate technological tools. Those pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry can choose from four specialized tracks: General Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Physical Science Education. The biochemistry track specifically serves pre-med, pre-dental, pre-optometry, pre-pharmacy, and pre-veterinary students, while also providing an optional clinical chemistry certification pathway alongside the chemistry degree.
