The Spanish program provides options for both a major and minor in Spanish. Its primary objective is to enhance students' language skills while building expertise in literature, cultural studies, practical applications, and translation - competencies valued across various careers. To achieve these aims, the curriculum features classes in general Spanish language, professional Spanish usage, Hispanic linguistics, literature and civilizations of Spain and Spanish America, plus translation studies. These offerings cater to students working toward a BA in Spanish (with or without teaching certification), a Spanish/English Translation Certificate, those meeting second language or core curriculum requirements, and students looking for complementary electives for other majors or minors.
