The English Program for undergraduates at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi offers students the opportunity to interact with diverse texts and hone language skills that foster local and global connections. Our program promotes the examination and synthesis of three key areas within English Studies: literature, applied linguistics, and composition. Students are encouraged to critically examine and craft texts spanning multiple genres, linguistic styles, and cultural traditions for audiences worldwide. Through coursework and campus activities, learners cultivate sophisticated analytical and creative competencies along with language proficiency, equipping them to become engaged, principled participants in multicultural societies. English majors can specialize in either Literary Studies or Writing Studies. The Literary Studies concentration equips students to analyze and critique various texts—including literature and film—within their historical and cultural frameworks. Meanwhile, the Writing Studies focus helps students refine their writing capabilities for diverse situations and objectives while exploring how written communication functions in society through rhetoric, literacy, and composition studies. Both specializations develop crucial critical thinking and communication abilities that serve graduates pursuing careers in fields like law, education, business, or science, as well as those continuing to advanced academic programs.
