This program equips students with advanced specialized training to prepare them for technical roles in industry or doctoral studies in science and engineering. Through rigorous coursework, students gain deeper knowledge of core MSEN subjects including thermodynamics, kinetics, solid-state physics, and materials mechanical behavior. The curriculum also expands students' horizons through specialized MSEN seminars and courses. The M.S. program offers flexibility with both thesis (research-focused) and non-thesis (course-focused) degree paths. Thesis-track students collaborate with faculty advisors to develop research proposals and complete oral defenses and presentations of their work.
Individuals holding a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in engineering or science as well as qualified seniors during their last semester of study for a BS in engineering or science may apply for admission to the graduate program to work toward the thesis or non-thesis degree of Master of Science (MS), majoring in Materials Science and Engineering (MSEN).
English proficiency can also be demonstrated by:
Minimum TOEFL i-BT score of 80 (in person or Home Edition) from a test date within two years (Texas A&M University does not accept the MyBest TOEFL score), or
Minimum TOEFL Essentials score of 8.5, or
Minimum IELTS Academic test score of 6.0 overall band (Texas A&M University does not accept the IELTS General test), or
GRE Verbal Reasoning score of at least 146 (subject to departmental approval), or
GMAT Verbal Score of at least 22 (subject to departmental approval), or
Acquiring alternative verification during the admission process from the Graduate and Professional School via a departmental request.
