The Master of Science (MS) in Geology program cultivates fresh insights through investigative work and innovation. Participants can choose between a thesis or non-thesis track for their graduate studies. This program equips graduates with competencies such as the ability to:
contextualize geological data for relevance in land management, environmental conservation, and infrastructure development,
evaluate geological risks and resource availability while making practical assessments,
identify whether geological evidence points to potential subsurface targets,
advise on appropriate geological data types for specific geoscientific challenges,
formulate broad conclusions about Earth's systems from imperfect geological records,
synthesize geological and geophysical information to create comprehensive models with enhanced value,
deliver effective presentations and field questions about geological interpretations and findings,
produce coherent written reports with logical arguments and well-supported geological conclusions,
utilize commercial software for geological data processing and visualization,
operate fundamental field and lab equipment for geological studies,
conduct hypothesis-driven geological research using core methodologies, and
grasp fundamental concepts of scientific uncertainty in geological investigations.
You are an international graduate applicant if you:
are not a citizen or permanent resident of the United States (or applicant for permanent residency)
AND
you have not graduated from a Texas high school after three years in residence in Texas
AND
hold a bachelor’s or professional degree (or equivalent)
English proficiency can also be demonstrated by:
Minimum TOEFL i-BT score of 80 (in person or Home Edition) from a test date within two years (Texas A&M University does not accept the MyBest TOEFL score), or
Minimum TOEFL Essentials score of 8.5, or
Minimum IELTS Academic test score of 6.0 overall band (Texas A&M University does not accept the IELTS General test), or
GRE Verbal Reasoning score of at least 146 (subject to departmental approval), or
GMAT Verbal Score of at least 22 (subject to departmental approval), or
Acquiring alternative verification during the admission process from the Graduate and Professional School via a departmental request.
