A Master of Science (M.S.) equips students with both academic coursework and hands-on research experience, fostering skill development and technical expertise. While many believe an M.S. is mandatory before pursuing a Ph.D., this isn't true. Students aiming for a Ph.D. are actually advised to enroll directly in Texas A&M University's Ph.D. program.
The Biomedical Engineering Department provides an M.S. program requiring at least 32 credit hours, including 24 hours of structured coursework. This research-focused degree mandates students to prepare and defend a thesis under the guidance of a faculty committee comprising at least three graduate-level professors, with one serving as the principal advisor. Applicants must hold an engineering bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification. (Remedial courses might be necessary.)
Students admitted into this program must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or an equivalent field (leveling courses may be required if coming from a dissimilar background).
English proficiency can also be demonstrated by:
Minimum TOEFL i-BT score of 80 (in person or Home Edition) from a test date within two years (Texas A&M University does not accept the MyBest TOEFL score), or
Minimum TOEFL Essentials score of 8.5, or
Minimum IELTS Academic test score of 6.0 overall band (Texas A&M University does not accept the IELTS General test), or
GRE Verbal Reasoning score of at least 146 (subject to departmental approval), or
GMAT Verbal Score of at least 22 (subject to departmental approval), or
Acquiring alternative verification during the admission process from the Graduate and Professional School via a departmental request.
