The Organizational, Political, and Economic Sociology division within Texas A&M University's sociology department explores societal frameworks and transformations. About one-third of departmental faculty specialize in researching and teaching these interconnected sociological fields. Their work prioritizes theory-based empirical studies that illuminate patterns of stability and evolution across organizational, national, and international social systems. Particular emphasis is placed on analyzing political economies, market dynamics, governmental structures, social stratification, collective action, business entities, bureaucratic systems, and tensions between different institutional configurations. Many scholars in this program investigate how gender, class, and racial inequalities emerge from historical power structures and how these disparities persist or face challenges within key institutions like employment sectors, education systems, business enterprises, work environments, and government bodies.
