The Sociology Graduate Program at Texas A&M University offers a comprehensive curriculum catering to diverse research specialties. This presentation outlines key aspects of the program. PhD candidates can specialize in various fields such as: Crime, Law and Deviance, Cultural Studies
Population Studies, Institutional, Political and Economic Sociology, Social Stratification (Race, Class, Gender), Social Psychology
Additionally, doctoral students select minor concentrations. These can be chosen from any listed specialization, provided the minor differs from their primary focus. Students also have the flexibility, with faculty guidance, to develop custom minors not officially listed - though this option doesn't apply to major concentrations.
Applicants may join our Sociology Graduate Program regardless of whether they hold a Master's degree. The 96-credit track (5-year duration) accommodates students entering with either a Bachelor's degree or a non-sociology Master's, requiring completion of a Master's thesis. The 64-credit option (4-year plan) is designed for those with a recent sociology Master's. The admissions committee may occasionally place Master's holders in the 96-credit program to allow additional research publication time.
