A Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) represents the highest academic achievement in petroleum engineering, awarded for making an original, substantial contribution to the field.
Typically, candidates join our Ph.D. program after completing a thesis-based Master of Science (M.S.) degree. Enrollment requires passing both a Department Qualifying Exam and a Preliminary Examination (detailed in the Graduate Catalog). These assessments evaluate a student's research potential and readiness for advanced study in our department.
Typically a Master of Science (MS) degree is required prior to pursuing a PhD degree
