The nutrition doctoral program offers specializations in fundamental molecular nutrition or practical human nutrition studies. For example, Ph.D. students focusing on basic nutrition might conduct investigations in nutritional biochemistry, physiological processes, immune system interactions, or molecular biology, whereas those in applied nutrition could explore clinical practice, public health initiatives, or global nutrition challenges. All candidates must fulfill the core nutrition curriculum, encompassing studies in nutritional science, biochemical principles, physiological systems, and epidemiological/statistical methods.
In their initial autumn term, students undertake lab rotations and commence graduate-level coursework. These rotations help identify appropriate research settings for their doctoral work, with most students selecting their primary research lab by the second semester's beginning.

Throughout semesters two and three, graduate students assist with undergraduate instruction to develop teaching competencies. Their primary objective, however, involves launching research initiatives under guidance from their thesis advisor and committee of three faculty members. This phase also includes preparation for preliminary examinations, typically completed by the third academic year's autumn term.
Our nutrition graduate program employs an interdisciplinary model, incorporating faculty specialists from various Texas A&M departments. The curriculum provides advanced training in human nutrition with concentrations in either fundamental molecular nutrition or practical applications. Participants develop proficiency in nutritional biochemistry, physiological mechanisms, immunological aspects, or molecular biology, while applied nutrition scholars may focus on clinical interventions, community programs, or worldwide nutrition concerns.
