Upon successfully finishing the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program, graduates gain the skills to tackle urgent scientific problems by systematically applying both experimental and theoretical approaches. The degree is awarded after showing comprehensive knowledge of the field and proficiency in independent research. Candidates must also exhibit expertise in both written and verbal scientific presentation.
The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics fosters a curious and varied group of researchers united by their passion for biochemistry and biophysics. Program graduates emerge ready to confront critical scientific issues by integrating empirical and theoretical techniques. The PhD program trains students for academic positions or research roles in government institutions or industry settings.
Students are expected to have undergraduate training in biological, chemical, mathematical, and physical sciences.
English proficiency can also be demonstrated by:
Minimum TOEFL i-BT score of 80 (in person or Home Edition) from a test date within two years (Texas A&M University does not accept the MyBest TOEFL score), or
Minimum TOEFL Essentials score of 8.5, or
Minimum IELTS Academic test score of 6.0 overall band (Texas A&M University does not accept the IELTS General test), or
GRE Verbal Reasoning score of at least 146 (subject to departmental approval), or
GMAT Verbal Score of at least 22 (subject to departmental approval), or
Acquiring alternative verification during the admission process from the Graduate and Professional School via a departmental request.
