The Department of Sociology and Bush School of Government and Public Service provide an accelerated 5-year (32 credit) dual degree program, permitting Sociology students to begin Bush School coursework during their fourth undergraduate year at Texas A&M University. This pathway lets students earn both a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and a Master of Public Service and Administration (MPSA) within five years.
Eligibility for this combined program requires Sociology majors to maintain at least a 3.25 GPA and complete 102 of the 120 credit hours needed for their bachelor's degree. These must include all Sociology BS prerequisites along with Texas A&M's general education requirements. Prospective applicants should consult with an academic advisor for details.
The Sociology BS program equips students with essential knowledge and analytical skills to tackle societal challenges while offering diverse coursework on contemporary social issues. Certain classes incorporate service-learning components that blend academic study with community engagement. For career-oriented students, our acclaimed internship program provides valuable experience with nonprofits, government agencies, and corporations. Honors students gain additional research opportunities through direct collaboration with faculty.
The MPSA program cultivates ethical leaders for public service, equipping them with critical management, policy analysis, and leadership skills to navigate complex modern challenges. Accredited by NASPAA, the curriculum emphasizes practical training in public administration and policy research methodologies.
