Neuroscience explores the nervous system and how it influences behavior and mental processes. This multidisciplinary area combines knowledge from psychology, psychiatry, biology, chemistry, and physics. Given its broad scope, the Neuroscience program draws on various departments, such as Psychological & Brain Sciences, Biology, and Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, working alongside the Department of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics (NExT) in the College of Medicine. The Texas A&M Institute for Neuroscience (TAMIN) also contributes to this degree program. The Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience specialization is offered through the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences.
Students will gain a strong foundation in life and physical sciences, covering subjects like biology, chemistry, and physics. Depending on their career goals, they will also study neuroscience topics related to psychological and biological mechanisms, as well as applications in medical science, pharmacology, neural engineering, and biochemistry. Across the country, demand for neuroscience education is growing, partly due to shifting job markets that emphasize technical and healthcare roles. Graduates with a BS in Neuroscience will be equipped for advanced studies or entry-level positions in healthcare and technical fields.
