The Agricultural Science program blends scientific agriculture courses with professional education to equip students for careers in teaching and advanced studies. This degree pathway readies students to pursue teacher certification, enabling them to instruct Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR) courses at the secondary level. Participants must fulfill Texas state requirements for teacher education program admission. To graduate, students need a passing score on the TExES AFNR exam and must complete a semester-long teaching internship at a secondary school. Upon finishing the internship, graduates may qualify for Texas Education Agency certification to teach AFNR in public schools.
Beyond secondary education, graduates can explore careers as agricultural extension agents, positions with marketing firms or agricultural suppliers, or roles in other agricultural education-related fields.
