This program equips students with knowledge about global agricultural systems, emerging technologies, applied economics, and economic principles to cultivate the technical abilities required for evaluating and discussing agricultural, food, management, and resource challenges in Texas, across the nation, and internationally. Graduates gain qualifications for diverse career opportunities in both agricultural and non-agricultural enterprises, organizations, and government agencies. The Department of Agricultural Economics provides Bachelor of Science degrees in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness. The Agricultural Economics BS enables students to tailor their studies to align with career goals through specialized tracks in Finance and Real Estate, Food Marketing Systems, Policy and Economic Analysis, or Rural Entrepreneurship (with identical first- and second-year requirements across all specializations). Additionally, the department features an accelerated five-year dual-degree initiative with the Bush School of Government and Public Service, allowing Agricultural Economics students to earn both a BS and a Master of Public Service and Administration. The selective Agribusiness BS program delivers a robust business education tailored to meet the needs of agribusinesses and other industries, integrating curriculum from the Mays Business School.
