The English Department focuses on exploring the literatures and cultures of regions where English serves as a dominant language. Our academic offerings reflect the movement of English-speaking populations and cultural expressions through history and geography, blending historical, linguistic, and cultural examination with creative endeavors in literature, film, and new media. Faculty and student research spans diverse fields such as creative writing, rhetoric and discourse analysis, gender and women's studies, cinema studies, digital humanities, medical humanities, speculative fiction, and comprehensive literary studies encompassing African American, African Diaspora, Latinx, Asian American, Indigenous, and South Asian traditions.

The English Bachelor's program enables students to cultivate specialized knowledge through focused study in literature, composition and rhetoric, creative writing, speculative fiction studies, or film. English majors gain proficiency in clear and compelling communication, enhance their writing abilities (including technical, business, and creative writing), master textual interpretation and research techniques, and sharpen their analytical reasoning. This foundation equips graduates for professional paths in education, legal fields, technical communication, publishing, media, administration, marketing, counseling, and healthcare.
