Geospatial analysis is an expanding field with uses across numerous sectors and disciplines, such as climate resilience, commercial site selection, disease mapping, city and landscape design, and any area where location-based data guides forecasting and strategy. The Department of Geography, Environment, and Urban Studies provides graduate studies culminating in a Professional Science Master's (PSM) in Geospatial Data Science. This program blends in-depth education in data science and geographic information systems with career preparation and ethical business practices, equipping students for professional roles. Coursework covers statistical methods, coding, and innovative spatial analysis tools.
Faculty in the Department of Geography, Environment, and Urban Studies possess specialized knowledge in diverse GIS applications spanning commerce, ecology, data visualization, public health, site assessment, satellite imagery, and metropolitan studies. An industry advisory board shapes the curriculum, which emphasizes hands-on learning through projects and a mandatory internship. The program caters both to data professionals aiming to enhance their skills with large geospatial datasets and GIS practitioners seeking stronger programming and statistical foundations. Alumni meet qualifications for GIS Professional (GISP) certification.
