The Secondary Education graduate program's English Education specialization aims to equip teachers with skills to help secondary students analyze and create both literary and non-literary texts in written and spoken forms. The curriculum emphasizes bridging the gap between secondary education's advanced literacy requirements and the varying literacy needs of home and school environments. This English Education concentration can be pursued for certification alone or combined with a master's degree. While all candidates start in the master's track, they may opt to exit after meeting certification requirements or continue for the full degree. The program mandates at least 25 credits for certification and 31 credits for the certification-plus-master's option.
