Temple University's College of Science and Technology offers a Master of Arts in Biology program designed to provide students with up-to-date knowledge in modern biological sciences. This graduate program, available both part-time and full-time, prepares students for professional schools or biology-related careers while focusing on academic study rather than laboratory research. Unlike the Biology MS, the MA program concentrates on advanced coursework and independent study, allowing students to specialize in areas like molecular biology, genetics, and other biological disciplines. Through this coursework-intensive approach, students cultivate critical analysis skills essential for evaluating biological research and scientific literature. The curriculum spans multiple disciplines, covering cellular and developmental biology, molecular neuroscience, ecological studies, integrative biology, and evolutionary genomics. During their final year, all MA candidates complete a comprehensive literature-based thesis, developing expertise in analyzing and synthesizing primary research. Graduates emerge with the ability to produce thorough, analytical scientific reviews. While classroom learning forms the core of the program, students can utilize departmental resources including the Center for Biodiversity, the Institute for Contemporary Molecular Science, and the Sbarro Health Research Organization.

Bachelor's Degree in Discipline/Related Discipline: A baccalaureate degree in a science field is required.
Statement of Goals: In approximately 500 to 1,000 words, describe your interest in Temple's program, academic achievements, and research goals, and provide the names of up to three faculty with whom you would like to conduct your capstone master's research thesis.
Standardized Test Scores:
GRE: Required, with a combined minimum score of 300 on the quantitative and verbal reasoning sections.
Applicants who earned their baccalaureate degree from an institution where the language of instruction was other than English, with the exception of those who subsequently earned a master's degree at a U.S. institution, must report scores for a standardized test of English that meet these minimums:

IELTS Academic: 6.5

The minimum admissions standard for all graduate students is ordinarily an undergraduate grade point average of B or 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or the functional equivalent for students who have attended universities outside of the United States.
