The Bachelor of Science in Recreational Therapy program at Temple's College of Public Health equips students to become professional recreational therapists capable of working in diverse healthcare and community environments. These therapists employ specialized methods like adapted sports, creative arts, and life skills development to enhance the emotional, psychological, and physical wellbeing of individuals with illnesses or disabilities. The curriculum trains students to evaluate clients' needs, design targeted treatment plans, implement therapeutic interventions, and assess their outcomes. Throughout the Recreational Therapy Major, students gain comprehensive knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles, learn to facilitate adaptive activities such as sports, animal-assisted therapies, aquatic treatments, social skills development, and stress reduction techniques, master patient evaluation and medical documentation, understand clinical processes including initial assessments and care planning, and study research-based evaluation approaches.
