The Bachelor of Science in Historic Preservation program focuses on contemporary approaches to safeguarding cultural heritage and community-driven conservation efforts. During their initial two years, students complete foundational architecture coursework before specializing in preservation principles and methodologies during their final two years. This curriculum appeals to those passionate about exploring and implementing architectural and historical insights. The program provides a comprehensive overview of historic preservation, including the organizations and systems that guide preservation work at local, national, and global levels. Through coursework, students analyze various preservation projects from international, national, and regional perspectives. A culminating capstone project enables students to conduct detailed research on a chosen case study using professional preservation research techniques. Specialized facilities including collaborative workspaces, woodshops, digital fabrication labs, and visualization studios support hands-on research through drafting, model-making, and digital rendering. Program alumni gain the skills to assist architects or architectural historians in documenting historic structures, conducting archival investigations, or performing other non-licensed architectural tasks. The degree also prepares graduates for advanced studies in architecture, historic preservation, or related fields.
