The Bachelor of Science in Education with a focus on Middle Grades Education equips undergraduate students to teach students from fourth through eighth grade. There's a growing need for middle school educators in Pennsylvania and nationwide. The College of Education and Human Development's Middle Grades Education program not only addresses the shortage of certified teachers but also ensures graduates possess extensive knowledge about teaching methods while being dedicated to supporting diverse pre-adolescent and adolescent learners. Our curriculum emphasizes developing specialized teaching skills that align with academic standards and meet the varied developmental requirements of middle school students. To bridge theory with practice, we incorporate frequent, strategically planned field experiences in middle school environments. What makes our program unique is that it trains undergraduates to teach in both upper elementary and middle school classrooms. Along with certification to teach all elementary subjects for grades 4-6, students specializing in Language Arts will also qualify to teach Language Arts in grades 7-8.
