The Bachelor of Science in Community Development equips students with critical thinking skills to analyze the social, political, economic, and cultural factors influencing diverse communities. The program focuses particularly on helping underserved communities tackle disparities and enhance their lasting social, economic, and environmental resilience. Students gain the knowledge and tools to spearhead initiatives for building and sustaining thriving communities, with comprehensive insights into the complex challenges faced by urban and suburban areas in metropolitan regions. The curriculum explores approaches to driving change through both community-led efforts and policy interventions. Qualified undergraduates may opt for the accelerated dual-degree option, combining the B.S. in Community Development with an M.S. in City & Regional Planning. This intensive pathway allows students to earn both degrees in five years by applying up to 12 designated graduate credits toward their undergraduate requirements. After completing their bachelor's degree, students transition directly into the one-year master's program.
