The Master of Fine Arts in Film is a graduate-level program designed to prepare students for professional filmmaking careers. This curriculum equally focuses on two key areas: creative filmmaking across dramatic, experimental, and documentary genres, alongside comprehensive film studies encompassing theory, criticism, and history. The program seamlessly blends production classes with academic coursework, fostering dynamic exchanges between conceptual thinking and hands-on implementation. Tailored to address both professional and educational objectives in experimental and narrative filmmaking, the program features a distinctive interdisciplinary approach. Describe in approximately 500 words your main academic interests, why you wish to study for the degree you have chosen, why you wish to study at Syracuse University, how you expect to finance your studies, and your plans after you receive your degree. Upload directly to the online application.
Once you submit your application to the Graduate School, please allow up to three business days of processing. Upon completion, you will receive a confirmation email along with instructions on how to access your portfolio portal.
Submit original films online (10 minutes max.) via the Syracuse University Applicant Portal. Be certain to clearly indicate your role in the production of the film. Your submitted films should be a complete piece, not excerpts or reel, and should represent your best work.
