The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) Department provides a Ph.D. program in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. This curriculum is designed to equip students for advanced careers in research, academia, or professional engineering. Participants must develop a solid foundation across disciplines fundamental to Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering while specializing deeply in their chosen dissertation topic.
Each full-time student will receive a faculty advisor to assist with course selection and, when relevant, research direction. Advisors may mandate specific coursework to prepare students for specialized projects or research initiatives.
Proficiency in English, especially verbal communication and technical writing, is required for all MAE graduate students. Competence in computer programming is also essential.

Qualification Requirements
Admission to the Ph.D. program will be considered if three conditions are met. First, a sufficient level of academic and professional achievement must be documented by transcripts of the student's prior academic performance (a GPA of 3.33/4.0 or better is expected), GRE Quantitative score of 700+ (155+ on the new scale) and an acceptable GRE verbal score, and letters of recommendation and other supporting information. Second, the focusing of the student's efforts in one area of specialization should be clear from the student's transcript and statement of purpose. Third, a faculty adviser must be willing to supervise research in the student's area of specialization.
