The Mathematics Department offers two pathways to earn a Doctor of Philosophy: Mathematics or Mathematics with a Statistics specialization. With 33 faculty members specializing in various mathematical disciplines, statistics, and math education, the department supports around 55 graduate students. It operates from the historic Carnegie Library building, recently updated, located on the university's central quad. Degree options encompass M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Mathematics (with or without Statistics focus) as well as M.S. and Ph.D. tracks in Mathematics Education.
As the department's flagship graduate program, the Mathematics Ph.D. admits students directly into doctoral studies, allowing them to obtain an M.S. degree en route to completing their Ph.D.
