The Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Studio Arts is designed for aspiring professional artists.
This program centers on modern art creation, allowing students to engage deeply with classical disciplines like ceramics, jewelry-making, painting, printmaking, and sculpture, while also embracing innovative forms such as installation art, performance pieces, public artworks, and community-based projects.
Participants can specialize in a single traditional medium or adopt an interdisciplinary approach, blending techniques and materials with guidance from mentors and advisors. Focused on career development, the program cultivates the expertise needed to establish a lasting artistic career, continuing Syracuse University's tradition of shaping groundbreaking artists and cultural leaders.
The printmaking specialization provides focused training in relief, intaglio, lithography, screen printing, letterpress, handmade paper, and book arts. Students master both time-honored print techniques and cutting-edge digital hybrid methods.
Printmaking students gain comprehensive technical knowledge before refining their personal artistic focus. The curriculum covers historical processes alongside emerging technologies that integrate digital tools with mixed-media approaches.
Through our Lake Effect Editions press and visiting artist initiative, students collaborate with renowned printmakers during intensive residencies. These professionals guide participants in producing limited editions, printed installations, sculptural works, and group projects. The student-operated Graphic Arts League further enhances learning through workshops, excursions, and hands-on demonstrations dedicated to printmaking.
