For nearly three decades, Syracuse University's Department of Writing Studies, Rhetoric, and Composition has stood as a pioneering force in rhetoric and composition studies nationwide. Founded in 1987, the department led the movement to create dedicated academic departments concentrating solely on writing research and education. While continuing our foundational commitment to teaching introductory writing and professional communication, we've broadened our offerings to develop a cutting-edge curriculum that explores writing studies across all academic levels.
