This program immerses students in the historical, social, economic, and political dimensions influencing current public policy debates. Participants cultivate specialized knowledge in their selected policy field while gaining diverse academic viewpoints.
Through courses in the Policy Studies Program and across various schools including Maxwell, Arts and Sciences, Sport and Human Dynamics, Management, Education, Visual and Performing Arts, and Newhouse, students build practical competencies. The curriculum emphasizes social science research, digital tools, data gathering and interpretation, effective communication, teamwork, strategic planning, leadership, and analytical thinking. These capabilities prepare graduates for competitive roles in corporate, governmental, and non-profit organizations, while also providing strong foundations for advanced studies in law, public administration, business, healthcare management, and other disciplines. Additionally, these skills empower individuals to engage meaningfully in civic life.
Students typically apply for the MA IR combined degree program in their junior year spring semester, after declaring their major and earning at least 75 undergraduate credits.
