This Bachelor of Arts program provides education in German language, literature, and cultural studies. Completion of GER 101 and GER 102 (or their equivalents) is required before enrolling in GER 201 and higher-level courses. Advanced courses focus on intensive exploration of German literary works, cultural aspects, and enhanced language proficiency.
A placement test is mandatory for all enrolled students. This policy includes every new Syracuse University student, irrespective of their academic level or previous educational background.
Prospective German studies students should meet with the German program coordinator at the earliest opportunity. This early advising is especially crucial for those with minimal or no prior German language experience to ensure they can complete all prerequisite and degree requirements within the standard four-year timeframe.
