Syracuse University's French Program equips students to succeed in our diverse global society. The curriculum features an array of courses exploring Francophone literature and cultures, enhanced by interdisciplinary approaches including gender studies, Caribbean studies, and colonial/postcolonial research. By blending historical perspectives from medieval to early modern periods with contemporary viewpoints, the program provides comprehensive insight into literary and cultural developments through time. Students can pursue undergraduate majors/minors or a graduate M.A. in French and Francophone Studies, all focused on developing advanced language skills and cultural understanding.
Beyond its lyrical beauty, French serves as one of the world's most useful and widely spoken languages. It holds official status across five continents and serves as a working language for major international bodies like the UN, EU, and numerous global institutions.
