Chemistry, the field studying matter's composition, structure, characteristics, and transformations—particularly at atomic, elemental, and molecular levels—is taught via analytical, biological, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry courses, along with hands-on research involvement. Chemistry undergraduates can choose among four tracks: two Bachelor of Arts paths focusing on either general chemistry or biological chemistry, and two Bachelor of Science programs specializing in either standard chemistry or medical chemistry. The B.A. programs demand fewer chemistry credits than the B.S. alternatives while still establishing a solid disciplinary foundation suitable for professional work or advanced studies. Those pursuing a B.S. in chemistry acquire more comprehensive training by meeting additional requirements; they must submit a formal request to the department chair declaring their B.S. degree intentions before graduation.
