The Public Accounting BS/MBA program pioneered as the inaugural dual-degree option at a state university college approved by New York State for CPA exam eligibility. Aspiring Certified Public Accountants should visit the New York State Office of the Professions website (www.op.nysed.gov/prof/cpa/cpalic.htm) for licensure details. Beyond the combined BS/MBA, individuals with bachelor's degrees can fulfill CPA exam requirements through a standalone MBA program after completing prerequisite coursework. Alternatively, students may opt for a traditional four-year Bachelor of Science in Accounting, ideal for careers in management accounting, internal auditing, private sector accounting, tax preparation, or government accounting where the 150-credit rule doesn't apply. This pathway also serves those preparing for the Certified Management Accountant examination. Oswego's finance curriculum equips students for roles across financial services - including commercial/investment banking, asset management, securities trading, and insurance - as well as corporate finance positions in diverse industries. The Risk Management and Insurance specialization trains future insurance professionals and corporate risk management specialists.
