The Linguistics Program, established on May 24, 1967, provides both a BA degree and minor option that integrates diverse academic fields to explore language's structure and essence. Its foundation includes 12 credit hours of linguistics coursework, complemented by 24 upper-division credit hours analyzing language through various lenses.

Linguistics has gained growing recognition in recent times for both its theoretical significance and real-world applications. With complementary studies in related fields, graduates can pursue careers in diverse areas such as speech therapy, professional writing, corporate communications, language translation, programming, AI development, ESL instruction, sociolinguistic research, global commerce, and cognitive studies. Essentially, linguistics represents a universally relevant field whose investigations into language's cultural and interdisciplinary dimensions can be pursued across virtually all contexts and locations worldwide.
