Along with introductory, intermediate, and advanced language classes, we provide literature courses available in both French and English translation. These literature classes examine prominent writers and historical periods, along with specialized genre studies encompassing poetry, drama, and cinema.

Our semester or year-long study programs in Paris or Nice allow you to immerse yourself in French culture while improving language proficiency. Some students opt to spend a semester or summer studying in Quebec. Both students and faculty engage in the French Club, arranging film screenings and events that highlight the cultural richness of French-speaking communities, as well as occasional excursions to Quebec. Hone your language abilities during weekly international coffee gatherings and in our welcoming department lounge. The department also hosts a Pi Delta Phi chapter, the National French Honor Society. Many graduates have secured positions in France's esteemed Teaching Assistant Program.
