This field examines the chemical interactions and processes fundamental to pulp production and bleaching, along with certain paper manufacturing techniques. The curriculum covers both theoretical and practical chemistry, plus targeted courses on pulping and bleaching methods. Investigations concentrate on these subjects, with current emphasis on developing enhanced techniques to boost energy conservation and minimize ecological effects. Research explores diverse areas such as extracting acetic acid from wood chips' acetyl components, generating hydrogen and carbon monoxide through wood and pulping waste gasification, lignin removal and whitening using oxygen, hydrogen peroxide and ozone, enzymatic treatment of wastewater, carbohydrate reaction mechanisms, and light sensitivity in bleached pulp products.
