Boston's inaugural program of its type, Suffolk's politics, philosophy, and economics (PPE) curriculum equips students to assess social structures and policies through multiple academic lenses. By integrating approaches from three distinct fields, our program cultivates both qualitative and quantitative abilities essential for tackling intricate societal challenges and formulating effective responses.
PPE majors acquire hands-on experience in cross-disciplinary writing, research, and information synthesis while honing expertise in textual interpretation and mathematical modeling. The program allows customization through specialized upper-level coursework, with popular focus areas encompassing legal studies, environmental policy, social science research, and global relations.
Exceptionally suited for pre-law preparation, the PPE program features instruction in persuasive writing, critical reading, and legal system fundamentals. Alumni regularly enter diverse fields including public service, nonprofit organizations, legal practice, and financial sectors.
PPE students develop competencies to:
Assess policy initiatives from multiple perspectives, Communicate concisely and effectively, Apply both qualitative and quantitative methods to social issues, Present compelling arguments tailored to different audiences, Navigate disagreements constructively to foster mutual understanding.
The curriculum establishes foundational knowledge across all three disciplines while enabling specialized study aligned with individual aspirations. Majors complete four courses in each field—two core requirements and two advanced electives—concluding with a senior capstone project involving in-depth research on an interdisciplinary subject of personal interest.
