The Media/Film program equips students to comprehend media's societal impact across political, social, and cultural spheres while cultivating their abilities as innovative visual storytellers, focusing particularly on documentary and journalistic formats through practical video production training. Participants in this program produce meaningful stories and construct engaging narratives, capitalizing on the current renaissance of factual filmmaking. They also gain critical skills to examine media as both transformative forces and commercial enterprises. Collaborating with like-minded peers in an encouraging atmosphere, students bring ambitious creative visions to life. As they explore their personal backgrounds, they cultivate distinctive artistic perspectives. The program features instruction from acclaimed faculty with award-winning credentials and published works, alongside active industry practitioners. Additional skill development opportunities include campus roles such as TV studio crew members, media lab technicians, and research aides. Students can exhibit their creations at Northeastern film festivals - an emerging hub for documentary cinema - and share scholarly work at conferences nationwide and abroad. Alumni pursue careers as filmmakers, producers, post-production specialists, cinematographers, and media entrepreneurs, securing positions with major broadcasters (PBS, HBO), educational institutions, or founding their own production houses serving nonprofit and commercial sectors. Join our community as we harness the power of narrative to drive positive change.
