English alumni frequently enter fields such as publishing, public service, teaching, library sciences, healthcare management, arts leadership, media, and advertising. Our English students will:
Conduct detailed text examinations to formulate unique interpretations, Produce imaginative works across fiction, poetry, and memoir genres, Refine writing techniques and creative processes, Examine and evaluate textual structures, forms, and stylistic elements, Construct research-based arguments supported by contextual evidence, Acquire comprehensive knowledge of literary heritage and evolution.
As an English major, you'll analyze and produce texts spanning multiple genres, formats, and cultural-historical settings. Foundational courses immerse you in global literature while teaching interpretive methodologies. You'll also select three specialized electives from our extensive upper-level offerings.
This focus area cultivates inventive thinking and creative composition across three forms: verse, narrative fiction, and literary nonfiction. Instructors foster an inclusive space where students form a collaborative writing community, encouraging mutual work-sharing. Through rigorous genre workshops, you'll experiment with diverse styles, discover your artistic voice, and establish lasting writing habits. The curriculum additionally covers editorial processes and publication pathways.
