The Department of Pharmacological Sciences faculty, together with professors from other Stony Brook departments, provides a Graduate Program in Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology culminating in a Ph.D. This program focuses on early research involvement and a comprehensive curriculum, establishing a strong base for future independent study. Research possibilities span diverse fields such as biochemical/molecular pharmacology, chemical pharmacology/toxicology, and cellular/physiological pharmacology. In their initial two years, students work with faculty advisors to complete core and elective coursework while initiating thesis investigations. They engage in multiple faculty-led research initiatives before choosing a primary advisor. After passing qualifying exams, students concentrate entirely on dissertation work. The program offers research rotations and thesis opportunities across 52 affiliated labs within Pharmacological Sciences, other university departments, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.
