Stony Brook's Women's and Gender Studies graduate program fosters interdisciplinary scholarship examining foundational concepts like gender, race, class, sexuality, nationality, and disability. The Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies curriculum investigates how these frameworks emerge and function across diverse cultures and historical contexts, influencing societal structures, political systems, economic models, institutional practices, as well as individual perspectives and lived experiences. The program excels in four primary research domains: global social movements and transnational studies, media representation and cultural analysis, gender-related health issues, and sexuality studies. In addition to its dedicated Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies faculty, the graduate programs collaborate with scholars from various Stony Brook University departments spanning the social sciences, humanities, and health-related fields.
