The Department of Theatre Arts provides a 30-credit Master of Arts program in Theatre. This interdisciplinary M.A. program fosters collaboration, empowering graduate students to create, author, and modify original productions, act as dramaturgs for departmental shows, and implement historical and theoretical insights into cutting-edge theatrical creation and new play development. Students learn from an exceptional faculty comprising directors, performers, playwrights, scholars, dramaturgs, and designers who mentor them closely. The Staller Center for the Arts serves as Long Island's creative nucleus, offering an inspiring cross-disciplinary environment for Theatre, Art, and Music students. Additionally, participants explore the craft of developing original works through partnerships with faculty and peers from Art and Music disciplines.

Qualification Requirements

For admission to the M.A. program in Theatre Arts, the following, in addition to the minimum Graduate School requirements, are normally required:

A. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

B. Advanced undergraduate courses in theatre history, dramatic literature, and/or theatre practice.

C. Undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.0.

D. Three letters of recommendation.

E. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test scores.

F. Supporting materials must include a sample of the applicant's writing as well as other materials such as scripts, essays, publications, portfolio, etc. (For the returned work, the applicant must include a stamped, self-addressed envelope with the completed application.)

G. Acceptance by both the Department of Theatre Arts and the Graduate School.

IELTS: Overall score of 6.5, with no subsection recommended to be below 6

TOEFL: 80 for Master's level
