For five decades, Stony Brook's Physical Therapy Program has built a distinguished legacy with over 1,900 alumni. The curriculum cultivates professional leaders skilled in evidence-based practice, analytical thinking, and clinical judgment for independent practice. Graduates emerge ready to deliver patient care across diverse physical therapy environments while pursuing opportunities in research, leadership, or academia. The program benefits from proximity to Suffolk County's largest tertiary care facility (University Hospital) and the Long Island State Veterans Home, both located on campus just minutes from the PT department. These partnerships, along with Peconic Landing in Greenport, foster collaborative learning among practitioners, faculty, and students. As one of SUNY's four premier research institutions, Stony Brook holds membership in the elite Association of American Universities and ranks among the global top 1% of universities according to Times Higher Education. The Middle States Commission on Higher Education accredits the university, while the DPT program—housed within Stony Brook Medicine's School of Health Professions—maintains accreditation from CAPTE (Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education).
