The Oral Biology and Pathology Graduate Program at the Health Sciences Center provides Master's and Ph.D. degree programs through advanced study and research. The two-year M.S. program is ideal for dental graduates seeking foundational science education alongside or before clinical specialization. This program also caters to industry researchers pursuing further education and higher degrees. While the Department explores all facets of oral biology, current research initiatives focus on: oral microbiome development and regulation across dental and epithelial surfaces, oral malodor and gingivitis, periodontitis mechanisms, systemic-oral disease connections, dentinal hypersensitivity treatments, periodontal tissue health and pathology (especially remodeling and metalloproteinases), biological calcium phosphate properties, epithelial growth and gene therapy, oral and skin cancer pathways, wound healing, mucosal and skin graft biology, immune responses, inflammatory processes, and fibrosis.
