The Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology Graduate Program brings together faculty from the Department of Pharmacological Sciences, other Stony Brook departments, and researchers from Brookhaven National Laboratories and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories. This interdisciplinary program delivers extensive research and educational opportunities spanning fundamental biological sciences to advanced imaging techniques in cells, tissues, and living organisms. Faculty research focuses on diverse areas including cancer therapeutics, infectious disease treatments, cardiovascular and endocrine pharmacology, neuropharmacology, and pharmaceutical design. Students gain expertise through coursework covering pharmacology, biochemistry, molecular genetics, cell biology, immunology, structural biology, computational biology, and neuropharmacology. The program's excellence is demonstrated by 41 years of uninterrupted NIH training grant funding, involvement of numerous external faculty members, and the success of over 140 PhD alumni now working at prestigious universities and pharmaceutical companies. Over the past 15 years, we've awarded 61 PhDs with an average completion time of 4.9 years, and more than 90% of students finish within 6 years of starting the program.
