The doctoral program equips students with advanced research skills across all domains of theoretical linguistics, encompassing syntax, semantics, morphology, phonology, phonetics, and both first and second language acquisition, along with experimental and computational methodologies. This foundational training is enhanced by extensive interdisciplinary collaborations among students and faculty from departments like Psychology, Music, Computer Science, Philosophy, and the Institute for Advanced Computational Science (IACS). Our dynamic department features weekly Brown Bag sessions and Colloquia, an annual interdisciplinary Linguistics Lecture Series, a specialized Romance Linguistics Lecture Series, and frequently organizes major international conferences including Northeast Linguistics Society (NELS), Formal Approaches to Slavic Linguistics (FASL), Austronesian Formal Linguistics Association (AFLA), and the Morris Symposia on Language and Communication. Renowned for its welcoming and energetic environment, the department fosters intellectual growth through numerous formal and informal gatherings and initiatives.
