The Environmental Humanities program, culminating in a Bachelor of Arts degree, combines multiple academic fields to examine humanity's relationship with the natural world. This interdisciplinary curriculum blends social sciences and humanities disciplines such as: creative writing, literary studies, ethical philosophy, historical analysis, cultural anthropology, archaeological research, and art/architectural studies. Graduates develop skills to enhance societal engagement with nature through diverse career paths including environmental education, cultural institutions, grassroots activism, literacy programs, policy advocacy, sustainable business practices, creative writing, and visual arts. The program also serves as excellent preparation for graduate studies across various fields including literary analysis, media communications, teaching, social services, creative arts, humanistic social sciences, and environmental law. Rooted in the foundational sustainability curriculum, students focus on specialized coursework during their upper-division years. Degree requirements include collaborative projects with peers from complementary disciplines to develop teamwork-based solutions. Participants are strongly advised to pursue hands-on learning through local and global research initiatives, professional internships, and field-based programs.
