Biology examines living organisms, encompassing molecular and cellular processes, individual development and genetics, organismal maintenance, and interactions with living and physical surroundings. The undergraduate Biology program provides Bachelor of Science (BS) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees, both grounded in chemistry, mathematics, and physics to comprehend biological complexity across various scales. Students begin with three core courses covering organisms, ecosystems, cellular/molecular biology, and physiology, paired with a two-semester lab curriculum focused on experimental data collection, scientific literature analysis, and student-led physiology experiments. The BS degree features advanced coursework and lab studies within specialized tracks like Developmental Genetics, Ecology and Evolution, Environmental Biology, and others. The BA degree requires fewer biology courses but mandates a complementary Arts and Sciences minor, ideal for students combining bioscience with humanities or arts. The BS prepares students for graduate studies or technical roles in biotech, government, or research, while both degrees offer strong foundations for health science careers.
