The Africana Studies Department is a multidisciplinary program examining the cultures, histories, philosophies, sociologies, literatures, political systems, religious traditions, and lived experiences of African diaspora communities worldwide. Our faculty fosters civic engagement, cultivates awareness of universal human rights, and instills a sense of communal responsibility. The Africana Studies curriculum equips students with comprehensive knowledge about the historical, political, socioeconomic, and cultural realities of African-descended populations. This program critically examines topics affecting Black communities across Africa, North America, the Caribbean, and Europe through both historical and modern lenses, with special emphasis on political thought, artistic expressions, literary works, and societal frameworks. The interdisciplinary nature of this field introduces students to diverse scholarly viewpoints and methodological approaches. Africana Studies serves as exceptional groundwork for advanced studies in law, healthcare, business, technology, social services, and teaching professions. The program also provides valuable foundations for graduate studies in humanities, social sciences, and cultural research disciplines.
