The Philosophy Master of Arts program in Symbolic Systems requires applicants to possess qualifications equivalent to Stanford's undergraduate Symbolic Systems major. Candidates with robust backgrounds in one of the core SSP disciplines (philosophy, psychology, linguistics, or computer science) may qualify for admission, though they must complete a significant portion of the undergraduate SSP curriculum across the remaining foundational SSP areas. Stanford's Philosophy graduate program ranks among the globe's elite by all standards. We enroll outstanding scholars, offer extensive opportunities to learn from and consult with preeminent faculty, and produce highly skilled philosophers prepared to vie for top positions in this competitive academic landscape.
